I have a large mandoline. It is also extremely sharp. Neither this unit or my large mandoline have very good solutions for holding items to be sliced. I like the size of this mandoline and the fact that it can be hooked over the edge of a bowl. It will continue to be of greater use than the 4X more expensive unit.

I just got this and this morning I used it to make potatoes for my breakfast. I used the slicer with one of the attachments with teeth (don't know what they are called), and it worked fine. My less than stellar recommendation however comes from the fact that when I went to clean it there were bits of potato that had gotten up under the cutting blade and there's no easy way to clean this area - the blade is screwed in and is not easy to take out. Seems like a bit of a design flaw really - it would be better if the main blade came out easily too, which would make it much easier to get into those hard-to-reach spots. But otherwise it seems to work quite well.

This is my third Slicer bought from the same company. I normally just use the small (teeth) blade. It seems that the blade quality was poorer when I use to shred the green mango from the 2nd and the 3rd Slicer comparing to the first one I had several years ago. For softer veggi such as papaya, carrot, then it works fine.

I've been making zucchini noodles with this slicer and it is so easy to use! The one thing I would say is that I don't feel very comfortable using it with bare hands (as I'm prone to careless mistakes). I wear a cutting glove while using this and don't have to worry about any kitchen injuries at all!

Wouldn't work on carrots ... too dense for this slicer. Works well on softer vegetables such as zucchini, potatoes. Vegetable holder would be better if metal, or prongs which penetrate into the veggie better.

The Benriner mandoline is the king or queen of slicers. Take your pick. I love the simple adjustability from thickness of a hair to almost 1/4".On a personal level I very much get a kick out of seeing "my" mandoline in cooking shows featuring kitchens in major restaurants and kitchens of major chefs. The photo above is from 7 Days Out's episode showing Eleven Madison Park, characterized as "The No. 1 restaurant in the World." I submit that the Benriner is by extension "The No.1 Mandoline in the World."

I bought this to be able to cut potatoes into uniform shoestring french fries using one of the attachments. After one potato, it became increasingly difficult to use and the potatoes came out in large, flat, and thick slices with grooves in them. We realized that what must have happened during the first or second potato, was that the prongs of the attachment bent slightly sideways. This 1) made it difficult to force the slices through, 2) made the attachment ineffective, and 3) required extra force to get the potatoes through the blade. It's a miracle everyone walked away with their fingers. But I suppose it will still work for standard slicing in the future.

Very sharp blade. Has extra blades for julienne cut and fries. The finger guard is pretty useless. Its flat and doesnt grab curved foods well, cabbage falls apart b4 you hardly get started with the guard. I dont shred food as fast because I dont want to take part of a finger off. This is a narrow model so I have to cut foods accordingly to shred. Product had good reviews, and I'm not a novice cook. Hopefully I find a better finger guard that works on this item
